ROLE DETAILS

- Location: Bengaluru, India | Full-time | Office-based
- Compensation: ₹24 to 30 LPA + ESOPs + Standard Benefits
- Reporting To: Co-Founders
THE OPPORTUNITY
Desible.ai is a VC-backed SaaS platform processing 300K+ daily calls and serving Indian BFSI Companies at scale. We're moving from a lean, founder-managed financial operation to an investor-grade financial control environment.
This role owns the complete financial foundation: monthly close, compliance, cash management, and investor reporting. You won't have a Finance team reporting to you; you'll be the Finance function. What you build - the processes, the controls, the dashboards, the audit readiness - becomes the template for our next 50 hires and is the credibility signal to our board.
This is not a traditional "Finance Manager" role at a larger company. This is building financial rigor from scratch at a start-up scaling toward ₹100+ Cr ARR.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Monthly Financial Management (40%)
- Execute month-end close: GL reconciliation, balance sheet tie-out, P&L variance analysis
- Accounts Payable: invoice processing, payment approval, vendor reconciliation (Tally, invoice verification)
- Accounts Receivable: invoice tracking, collections follow-up, MIS for subscription platform ARR metrics (customer retention, NRR, CAC)
- Bank reconciliation: daily/weekly, flagging anomalies, cash flow forecasting
- Intercompany accounting: coordinate with CA on LLP-to-Pvt Ltd conversion carry-forward, ensure accurate subsidiary/holding company treatment
Compliance & Audit Readiness (30%)
- GST compliance: monthly GSTR filing, reconciliation with invoices, input credit tracking
- Income tax: prepare books for CA, coordinate on advance tax, TDS filing
- Statutory payroll: salary register, ESI/PF contributions, provident fund trustee coordination
- Audit support: organize documentation for CA annual audit, DPDPA/data processing agreement compliance for financial records
- Tally configuration and maintenance: chart of accounts, master data, period closures
- Investor reporting: monthly financial statements, cash position, burn analysis, SaaS metrics (MRR, ARR, CAC, LTV, burn rate)
Cash & Financial Planning (20%)
- Daily cash position tracking and forecasting (16-week rolling forecast)
- Payment runs: ensure liquidity, prioritize critical vendor payments, optimize payment timing
- Vendor management: negotiate payment terms, maintain vendor relationships, track contract terms
- Tax planning coordination: work with CA on deduction strategy, advance payment due dates
Financial Systems & Data (10%)
- Maintain and improve Tally configuration for scalability
- Implement finance workflows: approval matrices, document retention, audit trails
- Monthly revenue recognition: subscription billing, GST treatment, deferred revenue tracking (Ind AS 115)
- Support fundraising: prepare cap table, SAFE schedules, cap table trackers, option pool management
- “Mention your Favourite Hollywood movie in subject line while you share resume”
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- 4–6 years of accounting/finance experience, with at least 2 years at a SaaS or high-growth startup
- Hands-on monthly close: GL reconciliation, balance sheet management, P&L variance analysis
- GST compliance and filing (India mandatory)
- Tally ERP or similar accounting software (not just Excel spreadsheets)
- Comfortable working with CAs and external auditors
- Solid understanding of India statutory compliance: labor laws, statutory deposits, tax filings
- Quantitative mindset: building financial models, tracking operational metrics (revenue, burn rate, burn multiple)
Experience that matters:
- SaaS or subscription business (revenue recognition, deferred revenue, churn tracking)
- Startup scaling phase: 20–100 person companies with growing complexity
- Month-end close under 10 business days (efficiency matters in startups)
- Built or improved financial processes from scratch
- Worked with fractional CFO or CA coordination (not relying entirely on external support)
- Familiarity with VC-backed financial reporting (cap table, option pools, investor updates)
NICE-TO-HAVES
- CA (Chartered Accountant) qualification - not required, but relevant
- Experience with SaaS metrics: MRR, ARR, CAC, LTV, burn rate, NRR (retention)
- Prior experience at a finance services or insurance-adjacent company (regulatory familiarity is a plus)
- Experience with financial forecasting and fundraising rounds
- Familiarity with DPDPA (Digital Personal Data Protection Act) data processing and vendor compliance
- Exposure to Ind AS 115 (revenue recognition) or similar accounting standards
- FEMA/forex experience
SKILLS & MINDSET
- Accuracy-first: Accounting is binary - right or wrong. You have high attention to detail and low tolerance for errors
- Process builder: Sees chaos and creates systems. You've built month-end checklists, created audit trails, or standardized workflows
- Resourcefulness: Limited budget, limited headcount. You do more with less and don't need enterprise financial tools to be effective
- Communication: Can explain financial results to non-finance founders and translate accounting into business language
- Initiative: Sees a compliance gap and fixes it. Doesn't wait for permission to organize documentation or improve processes
- Learning agility: Startups evolve faster than standard accounting practices. You adapt quickly and learn new frameworks (SaaS metrics, revenue recognition rules)
- Vendor & auditor management: Comfortable interacting with CAs, auditors, and statutory bodies
WHY DESIBLE — THE REAL VALUE PROP
- Equity upside is real: Your grant represents genuine founder-level alignment at a company with institutional backing and clear market traction. You're not betting on speculation; you're betting on execution. And your financial controls are the unlocking lever for the next phase of growth.
- You'll own the entire finance function: Most Finance Managers inherit systems; you're building them. Every P&L format you create, every reconciliation process you standardize, every investor dashboard you build becomes the blueprint for scaling. That's on your resume permanently.
- Founder partnership: You report to two co-founders who actually value operations and financial rigor. Neither will second-guess accounting accuracy or push you to bend the books. Your voice in strategy conversations is real.
- Investor-grade credibility: You're building for Tier I VC (₹55+ Cr AUM), enterprise clients, and future fundraising. That means your work has to be audit-ready from day one. Most startups get sloppy; ours can't. You're building toward that bar.
- Learning velocity: You'll touch revenue recognition, SaaS metrics, cap table management, investor reporting, statutory compliance, and fundraising - all simultaneously in one small team. It's boot-camp-level learning compression.
- Market timing: Voice AI + Insurance is one of India's fastest-growth sectors. You're building the financial infrastructure for a platform processing 300K+ daily calls. That's table-stakes for scale.
- Next role clarity: Strong CFO prospects start as Finance Managers at high-growth startups. If you perform here, your next role could be fractional CFO (₹25–40 L), Finance Director, or founding finance leader at another venture — and startups will hire you over generalist accountants because you've proven you can build systems and scale them.
THE HONEST CONVERSATION
This role requires:
- Scrappiness: You'll use Tally and Excel more than enterprise systems
- Hustle: Month-end closes might require long hours (worst case: 8–10 hours of focused work over a week)
- Founder communication: You'll need to translate accounting into business metrics and flag cash concerns early
- Self-motivation: No finance team under you, no one checking your work — you drive quality and timelines
What you get back:
- Equity: That could be worth 10–50x your annual salary if execution goes right (3–5 year horizon)
- Resume line: "Built financial controls for a VC Backed Seed Plus SaaS platform from ₹0 to audit-ready in 12 months"
- Direct access: To founders and board (visibility that most Finance Managers at larger companies don't get)
- Compressed learning: 18 months of practical finance experience at a VC-backed company = 5 years at a corporate
THE HIRING PROCESS
- Initial chat (30 min): Phone call about your background, what you're looking for, why Desible interests you
- Finance deep-dive (60 min): Whiteboard conversation with Co-founders on approach to month-end, investor reporting, compliance
- CA/Auditor reference call: We'll ask your current/past CA or auditor to validate your accuracy and process orientation
- Founder conversation (30 min): Final alignment on expectations and fit
- Offer & close: Fast process
Timeline: Targeting hire within 3–4 weeks of first conversation.
